SUMMARY:OUTING : ASTRO PHOTOGRAPHY WITH SRAA (Laravale\, QLD)
DESCRIPTION:CONFIRMED: \nThis event will be at the Scenic Rim Astronomy Association Inc. (SRAA) property in Laravale.  Weather permitting (the following Saturday 21/3/26 is our alternative date). \nThis is a Club Night for them and we will be able to look through some of their telescopes (with permission). \nNOTE:  The area has concrete stands in place – these are PREDOMINANTLY for club members to put their telescopes onto.  We will have to check before putting up a tripod on one of these. \nHere’s the plan: \n\n\nCome to 77 Christmas Creek Rd\, Laravale. Full directions and details here.\nIt is a public viewing night\, so we will have a number of other visitors there to look through the telescopes\, but there is plenty of room for photographers to set up.\nWe ask a $5 per person donation to the club\, please bring correct change.\n\nPlease arrive before sunset (say 5.30 pm) so your members can park and set up easily in the light. Mark can give you all a talk around 6.00pm.\nTelescope observing from about 1 hour after sunset (7.00 pm) until 9.00 or 10.00 pm\, leave anytime. It’s not totally dark until 7.20pm\, so photography may have to wait until then.\nWhen leaving\, please try to minimise headlight use until you are well away from the telescopes.\nBring plenty of warm clothes\nWe typically eat between sunset and darkness\, from around 5.45pm. We have a BBQ\, microwave and kettle available\, plus tables and chairs\, but people would need to bring their own food and drinks.\nAs many of our members do\, you may prefer to bring sandwiches or something quick to eat\, or buy something like pizza or Subway in Beaudesert. A thermos of something hot to drink is a good idea\, or we have coffee etc available for a gold coin donation.\n\nSRAA Visitor Information \n

SUMMARY:Outing: Macro Photography
DESCRIPTION:MEMBERS POST:\nDear Forest Lake Photography Club Members\,\n\nWe are excited to invite you to a special macro photography shoot at the beautiful Mt Coot-tha Gardens in Brisbane on Saturday\, 6 December 2025\, starting at 8:00 am sharp.\nIf you’re arriving at 8:00am meet at the Information Centre or call me on 0477 111 255.If you’re arriving earlier – you can access the garden from the brick ponds near the admin building. You might get some great shots if you’re early.\n\nThis is a fantastic opportunity to discover the wonders of macro photography in one of Brisbane’s most picturesque natural settings. What makes this session especially valuable is the chance to learn directly from Paul Harrop\, one of our experienced members\, who will share his hands-on techniques and tips. The image above is one of Paul’s.\nPaul specialises in hand-held macro photography\, focusing on capturing insects and other tiny moving subjects. His approach avoids tripods and focus stacking\, since these methods don’t work well for live\, moving insects. Instead\, Paul’s technique emphasises steady hand work with the right gear and settings\, offering an authentic and dynamic shooting experience.\n\nWhat to Bring:\n\nYour camera with any lens capable of close-up photography. It doesn’t have to be a dedicated macro lens.\nA knee pad if you’re comfortable carrying one — Paul suggests slip-on kneepads for comfort during low-angle shots.\nHats and sun protection to stay comfortable outdoors.\nWater bottle.\nIf you plan on shooting stationary subjects like flowers\, bringing a tripod will be helpful.\nFor those who have a macro lens\, flash\, and diffuser\, bringing these along will enhance your creative options.\n\nWhether you’re a seasoned macro shooter or looking to try it for the first time\, this session promises to be both educational and fun.\nLooking forward to seeing you there\, ready to explore the tiny world through our lenses!
