SUMMARY:OUTING: Forest Lake Community Fair - FIREWORKS
DESCRIPTION:Time to get CREATIVE with FIREWORKS photography.\n\nJoin us at the Forest Lake Community Fair on Thursday 29 August from 7:00pm to practise taking long exposure firework photos.\nThis is your chance to try slow shutter speed photography and capture those dramatic firework shots where your friends say\, “Wow\, that’s amazing.”\n\nWe will be using manual mode\, bulb mode\, or time mode to create beautiful light trails in the sky. If you have always wanted to try long exposure photography but were not sure where to start\, this is a great opportunity to have a go.\n\nThe fair runs until 8:00pm. I am not sure exactly what time the fireworks will start\, so please arrive by 7:00pm so we have time to find a good spot\, set up tripods\, check camera settings\, and be ready before the action starts.\n\nMeeting location: To be confirmed. I am currently thinking of the area near the table tennis tables\, but we may need to arrive early to secure a good position.\n\nParking note: The closest road for parking is likely to be Alexandrina Crescent\, Forest Lake. Parking may be very limited\, so getting dropped off and picked up afterwards might be the easiest option.\n\nWhat to bring:\nCamera that can shoot in manual modeTripodRemote shutter release or timer settingWarm clothingWaterFully charged batteryEmpty memory card\nSuggested starting settings:\nManual modeISO 100Aperture around f/8 to f/11Bulb mode or shutter speed between 2 and 10 secondsManual focus set to infinity\n\nDo not worry if you are new to this. Come along\, experiment\, and have fun. Long exposure fireworks photography is all about trying different timings and seeing what you can create.\n\nARE YOU IN?

SUMMARY:Club Night: Speaker - Stephen Hobson on photographing botanic gardens & wilderness areas at night
DESCRIPTION:About Stephen Hobson: \nWith more than 50 years of experience\, he has dedicated much of his photographic career to capturing gardens and landscapes at night\, beginning with flash photography on film in the 1970s and continuing today with digital photography. His work has taken him across the UK\, USA and Australia\, photographing everything from public botanic gardens to remote bush landscapes. He is particularly drawn to the technical challenges\, uncertainty and mystery of working in darkness\, where light\, distance and detail are constantly pushing the limits of photography.\n\nHis extensive career also includes teaching photography and art\, including 10 years at Queensland College of Art\, directing regional art galleries\, curating exhibitions and writing about photography for books and journals. He has studied and worked alongside internationally recognised landscape photographers\, and his photographs are held in significant public and private collections. He is currently developing new work along Australia’s east coast for a forthcoming book and exhibition\, and we are delighted to have him share his experiences\, adventures and approach to photography with our club
