About Stephen Hobson:
With more than 50 years of experience, he has dedicated much of his photographic career to capturing gardens and landscapes at night, beginning with flash photography on film in the 1970s and continuing today with digital photography. His work has taken him across the UK, USA and Australia, photographing everything from public botanic gardens to remote bush landscapes. He is particularly drawn to the technical challenges, uncertainty and mystery of working in darkness, where light, distance and detail are constantly pushing the limits of photography.
His extensive career also includes teaching photography and art, including 10 years at Queensland College of Art, directing regional art galleries, curating exhibitions and writing about photography for books and journals. He has studied and worked alongside internationally recognised landscape photographers, and his photographs are held in significant public and private collections. He is currently developing new work along Australia’s east coast for a forthcoming book and exhibition, and we are delighted to have him share his experiences, adventures and approach to photography with our club
