Club Night: SPEAKER Tryg Helander (Low Key/High Key Photography)
About Tryg:

My name is Tryg Helander. I am a 50-year-old ex-military intelligence specialist and spent 25-years in the Royal Australian Navy. Prior to service, I had completed a Diploma of Photography and had dreams of following my stepfather into the business of being a paid professional photographer. Being the late ’80s, it was all darkroom based. Fortunately, I was able to use cameras in my military career, due to the nature of intelligence collection.
Post service, I started a photography business, which ran for 7-years and have subsequently retired from work. In that time I upgraded my skills by completing a second Diploma of Photoimaging. Additionally, I was quite active in the professional sphere and Institute of Professional Photographers. I have now been in the amateur photography world for 5-years and have had a trial by fire!
I am a former President of my local 116-year-old photography society, I am the current Vice President of the Photography Society of Queensland (PSQ) and am an accredited Judge within the organization. I currently sit as the Chair of the Judges’ Executive Committee. The PSQ has 56-clubs and 50-judges within the third most populous state in Australia.
As a former professional photographer, I am continually humbled by the quality of work I see from groups such as the PSA, APS, RPS, etc. I have achieved my Associate honours in the APS. I am hoping to gain portfolio honours in the PSA, in the near future.
